Checkpoint Systems Inc. on Friday launched an upgrade of its electronic-tracking system for libraries.
The Intelligent Library System 2.0 is a collection management and security system that has been enhanced with software that enables a staff member to monitor several self-checkout stations from one workstation, without extra hardware, officials with the Thorofare, N.J., company said. The ILS checkout stations include prompts and messages in up to six languages.
The ILS operates through radio-frequency identification tags placed on or inside the items. This system operates within its own local network of RFID readers placed throughout the library, including the library entry/exit where it functions as a security alert, triggering an alarm when books are removed from the library without permission.
The ILS 2.0 is currently available.
