Sun Microsystems on Tuesday announced a two-year, $25 million extension of its contract with Major League Baseball's Internet arm.
Sun Services will architect and build the infrastracture for MLB Advanced Media's new data center, which is scheduled to open for the 2004 season. The center will be built on Sun's servers, storage systems, digital asset management architecture and Java enterprise system.
The deal includes another data center scheduled for operation in 2005, which will be MLBAM's third.
During baseball season, the MLB's interactive web site broadcasts as many as 15 live games on video a day, and more than 6,000 audio-streamed games each year. On opening day of the 2003 playoff series, the site recorded 35 million page views.
