The recent patch offered up by Microsoft to plug vulnerabilities in Outlook 2002 and Office XP causes problems for users of a pair of spam filtering products, both Cloudmark and Sunbelt Software said Thursday.
After installing Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), users of Cloudmark's SpamNet and Sunbelt Software's iHateSpam began seeing security alert pop-ups with each message they received.
Microsoft released Office XP SP3 on Tuesday to patch a vulnerability within Outlook 2002. Users of the two anti-spam products soon began reporting seeing a pop-up dialog warning that a program was trying to access e-mail addresses within Outlook, and that the issue could be virus related.
While Cloudmark has yet to resolve the issue -- "Cloudmark is working with Microsoft to find a solution to this problem," the company said on its support site -- Sunbelt Software has posted an update on its Web site that fixes the bug.
