Macromedia on Friday posted an update for Dreamweaver MX 2004, its flagship Web development tool, that fixes severe performance problems.
"Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1 fixes known problems...that could cause Dreamweaver to perform slowly or occasionally crash, so all current Dreamweaver MX 2004 users should download and install this software update," Macromedia said on its support site.
According to the San Francisco-based tools developer, the update boosts performance by 50 percent on Windows and 70 percent on the Mac.
Macromedia also announced changes to its licensing policies for the Studio MX 2004 line. The new policy allows customers to use both the prior version of a Studio MX 2004 product as well as the upgraded version, and gives developers limited rights to distribute their own Macromedia Flash components based on those included with the MX 2004 family.
