Boards Integrate Phone And VoIP

Boards Integrate Phone And VoIP

By John Walko ,

London - Voice-over-packet technology specialist AudioCodes introduces this week an upgraded line of media gateway boards that provide public switched network capabilities with an optional voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) software license.

Avi Ben Shlush, director of product marketing for media gateway boards at AudioCodes (Yehud, Israel), described the Ardito family as a "migration platform" that fills a void in the market by making it easier for developers to incorporate VoIP capabilities into their public switched telephone network products.

The PCI board allows VoIP to be activated when necessary through software-licensed IP functionality. "The solution is hugely cost-effective to operators, as VoIP support can be licensed any time to enable simple future system upgrade, while preserving the server's hardware," Shlush said.

The board includes firmware-based media processing such as low-bit-rate message record/playback from PSTN and IP networks, real-time multiparty conferencing, comprehensive interactive-voice-response support and G.168-compliant echo cancellation.

AudioCodes is also beta testing a CompactPCI voice-over-packet communications platform with an STM-1/OC-3 PSTN interface, for deploying VoIP in next-generation networks. It will offer up to 2,016 channels on a single module, the company said.

The TP-6310, available in November, is said to comply with all standard network control protocols, including Media Gateway Control Protocol and Megaco (H.248), and with AudioCodes' proprietary VoIP application programming interface.

"The 6310 is just the first in a range under development that will go from an STM-1 interface and in future support higher-capability networks, including wireless infrastructure," said Shlush.
