Gateway Puts Centrino Laptop, Tablet Front And Center

Gateway added two new products to its expanding lineup on Wednesday -- a wireless laptop and a Centrino-equipped Tablet PC -- that it will start shipping this week.

The new Gateway 200, a 4.3-pound ultra-light laptop packed with Intel's Centrino wireless technology, will be priced between $1,599 and $1,999. A 14.1-inch screen is standard, but the 200 can be configured with a either a 1.4MHz or 1.6MHz Pentium-M processor, up to 1GB of memory, and a variety of optical drives.

Also to ship Thursday is the Gateway Tablet PC, the company's first entry into the pad-style portable market that includes Centrino wireless networking. The Tablet comes with 256MB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive, and a 12.1-inch display. Prices begin at $2,399.
