Internet retailer Amazon.com released Monday an update of its Web services tool that enables third parties to integrate the company's product catalog into their own storefronts.
The Amazon Web Services Software Development Kit 3.0, which is downloadable at no charge, enables developers to also embed the Amazon shopping cart technology into their web sites.
The Amazon SDK is part of the retailer's associates program, launched in July 2002. The retailer claims to have 25,000 developers in the program. "We are very pleased with the progress of Amazon Web Services since it launched just ten months ago," Jason Kilar, Amazon.com vice president of worldwide software applications, said in a statement. Amazon estimates that about a quarter of sales comes from third parties.
Examples of sites that have used Amazon's application programming interfaces to build a path to Amazon product catalogs include www.simplest-shop.com, www.ipilot.net, www.yes.net, www.cusimano.com and www.sellerengine.com.
