Companies struggling to support multiple operating systems have a new best friend in VMwareWorkstation 4, the latest virtual machine software from VMware.
Workstation, which lets users run multiple operating systems -- including Windows, Linux, and NetWare -- on a single PC without partitioning the hard drive, has been updated with several new features and now supports additional OSs.
Users can now share files and folders between virtual machines using drag-and-drop, take snapshots of the state of any virtual machine and revert to that state at any time, and apply both user- and kernel-level debuggers as they cut code for multiple operating systems.
Workstation 4 also adds support for the upcoming Windows Server 2003 as well as various flavors of Linux and NetWare.
Workstation 4 will cost $299 when it debuts next month.
