Just weeks after its introduction in early November, more than 70,000 Tablet PCs have shipped, said research firm IDC on Monday.
"[This] initial volume represents a good start at securing a role in the crowded mobile device arena," said IDC analyst Alan Promisel.
Hewlett-Packard led the Tablet PC charge among vendors, shipping some 17,000 units of its Compaq Tablet PC TC1000, said IDC. Fujitsu ranked second, putting about 15,000 Stylistic ST4000 Tablets in the market.
Although early adopters have come from vertical markets traditionally drawn to tablet-style platforms where filling out forms is paramount, IDC sees more general corporate acceptance at least six to 12 months away as IT departments spend time testing tablets.
