Small Businesses Dominate Domain Name Registrations

By

Small businesses dominated domain name registrations in the first quarter, Network Solutions Inc. (stock: NSOL) said Thursday. Businesses accounted for 84 percent of Herndon, Va.-based NSI's registrations of .com, .net, and .org from January through March, and 70 percent of those companies employed one to four people. Growing numbers of new companies are starting online, said the dominant registrar and keeper of the .com database for all accredited registrars. Computer software companies led the first quarter list of new domain names, followed by attorneys and ISPs.
