Inktomi is making a push into the wireless market.
The Foster City, Calif.-based Internet software company on Tuesday unveiled a broad initiative to deliver infrastructure software to wireless network operators, Internet portals, and global enterprises.
The initiative includes six new alliances to expand its reach into the wireless space. The alliances are with Cap Gemini Group, Portal Software, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, Spyglass, and GWcom.
Inktomi also said it has acquired an equity stake in AirFlash, a Redwood City, Calif.-based global ASP of mobile content and commerce services.
Inktomi CEO David Peterschmidt said Tuesday's action is just the beginning of the company's move into the wireless market. Inktomi is "firmly planting a marker for the future of Inktomi as the global wireless infrastructure provider," Peterschmidt said.
