By Lee Pender,
Microsoft on Friday reposted a patch for Office 97 that was removed from the Web last month after some users experienced installation problems.
Included in SR-2 is a recalculation patch for the Excel spreadsheet, a record-editing fix for the Access database and fixes designed to ensure proper date handling and year 2000 compliance.
Microsoft officials said the contents of the patch are the same as those in the release that was pulled from the Web earlier. The Redmond, Wash.-based company changed the installation technology of the patch in hopes of remedying the problem that plagued the original SR-2 release.
Users must already have installed Service Release 1 in order to install the new release. Users who already have installed SR-2 do not need to install it again, Microsoft officials said.
Office 97 Service Release 2 is now available online.
