Symantec on Wednesday released a public beta of the 2006 edition of its flagship Norton AntiVirus for free downloading, and offered a free copy of the final version to the first 50 users who report an undocumented bug.
The 27MB download installs Norton AntiVirus 2006, which expires 30 days later, Symantec said on its Web site. The beta will run only on Windows 2000 SP3 (or later) and Windows XP systems.
Symantec typically releases updates to its SystemWorks and Internet Security line-ups around the time as AntiVirus is refreshed, so betas of the 2006 editions of those packages are also expected.
