First Wave Of ExpressCard Products Unveiled At CeBit
By TechWeb Technology News
Attendees at the Cebit show in Germany got their first look Friday at the initial wave of ExpressCard products ranging from host laptops to modules for memory, multimedia, networking, and security applications.
Sponsored by the PCMCIA trade association, the ExpressCard form factor has been initially endorsed by 28 members, which have submitted 53 compliant products including systems, modules, and components for compliance testing. A total of 20 host systems have been submitted to16 PCMCIA members for compliance review, the trade association said.
"Currently, 35 systems and modules from leading computer industry vendors have adopted this technology," said PCMCIA Chairman Brad Saunders, in a statement. "We expect to see a second wave of compliant products in the next two quarters as members use the smaller, faster ExpressCard form factor for digital TV tuners and WiMAX modules."
The range of products shown at Cebit covers plug'n'play TV tuners, hot pluggable IEEE 1394B adapters, Bluetooth cell phone connectivity products, CompactFlash adapters, Flash memory cards, and Gigabit Ethernet networking cards.
Fujitsu Siemens, LG Electronics, and Toshiba displayed laptop computers with ExpressCard slots. Showing application-based products were AboCom Systems, AverMedia, Lexar Media, TaiSol, and Wibu.
"Consumers should see the ExpressCard orange rabbit on store shelves in the near future," said Saunders, describing the form factor's logo.
