Major Publishers To Sell Non-Premium, Online Ad Space

By Antone Gonsalves , TechWeb Technology News

Fox Interactive Media, LookSmart and the Tribune Co. are among major publishers that have launched their own auction-based platform for selling non-premium advertising space, the platform vendor said Monday.

The three publishers, along with Community Connect, Six Apart, Tickle and WomensForum, are using Right Media's Publisher Media Exchange, unveiled Monday at the Brand Summit in Henderson, Nev.

PMX enables publishers to consolidate inventory, and provide an automated way for advertisers and ad networks to compete for the cost per impression for banner ads and text links. In addition, PMX gives publishers direct access to Right Media's network of advertisers.

"When publishers simply put that inventory in the hands of third-party intermediaries, they inevitably leave money on the table," Michael Walrath, chief executive and founder of New York-based Right Media, said in a statement. "PMX is a simple and efficient solution to regain control of and restore value to inventory that has been set adrift."
