Five applications security firms have banded together to form the Web Application Security Consortium (WASC) to develop "security standards of best practice" for the Web.
Charter members of WASC include Application Security, KaVaDo, Sanctum, SPI Dynamics Inc., and WhiteHat Security. The organization's goals include establishing consistent technical terminology about Web security issues and identification of security risks to e-business.
"The need for consistent technical terminology for web related security issues has a significant impact on risk assessment and remediation activities," Pete Lindstrom, research director of Spire Security, said in a statement Monday. "Establishing a standard approach for identifying these issues, along with a common terminology that everyone can adhere to, will help to thwart the increasing security risks associated with Web applications."
The WASC consortium said it will welcome additional members in the coming months.
