Harnessing Big Data Helps Resource-Intensive Global Customers Attack Inherent Inefficiencies and Unwarranted Waste

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- LumaSense Technologies, Inc. has named Brett Sargent as Chief Technologist to spearhead the company's 6th Sense Industrial Analytics initiative aimed at delivering progressive performance gains for international customers in Global Energy, Industrial Materials and Advanced Technologies. In his new and expanded role, Sargent will lead the 60-person LumaSense R&D and Product Management/Marketing team focused on development and integration of LumaSense's LS6 Sensors, LumaSpec Software, LumaSpection Systems and 6th Sense Platform Solutions.

"With his combination of engineering savvy and sales expertise, Brett has excellent insight into our customers' needs and how LumaSense solutions can be deployed to detect, reduce and prevent waste and inefficiency in our planet's most complex and resource-intensive industrial processes," said LumaSense CEO, Vivek Joshi. "Brett will help our customers hone what we call their
'6th Sense' to achieve progressive performance through predictable efficiencies that can directly improve their bottom line. Brett's guidance will be invaluable to ensure that we leverage our unique 6th Sense technology portfolio across key global industries."

Sargent, who joined LumaSense in 2006, is Vice President / General Manager, Products & Solutions. He has over 20 years of leadership experience in engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality control and global sales with DuPont, Lockheed Martin and Exelon Nuclear. Before joining LumaSense, he was Global Sales Leader at General Electric in the GE Energy transmission and distribution (T&D) products division, working with over 80 global channel partners to drive a $500M+ segment for GE. Sargent holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Widener University, an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Georgia State University. Sargent is a Six Sigma Black Belt with a focus on operational and customer-focused improvements.

"LumaSense is committed to helping our customers improve their processes, whether by installing a single sensor in one plant or deploying a fully integrated solution of sensors and software across their entire operation," said Sargent. "By applying our Predictive Efficiency Index to core processes, LumaSense customers can realize immediate and sustainable efficiency where just a
1% gain can translate into big numbers for a company's bottom line.

"Experts estimate that as much as 5% of a company's resources routinely go down the drain due to waste, inefficiency, and aging plants, infrastructure and equipment," Sargent continued. "Industrial companies account for approximately $16 trillion of global world product (GWP). Conservatively speaking, if 5 – 10% of that is squandered, that translates to over $1 trillion in readily preventable loss – a $1 trillion waste and inefficiency tax that trickles down to consumers in the form of higher prices and to a nation's economy in the form of lower competitiveness. Saving just 1% of that loss could eliminate an estimated $160 billion annual drag on global productivity."
