The festival, which took place June 29-July 1, showcased the fully electric Nissan LEAF. The fuel-saving vehicle was challenged to conquer the Goodwood hillclimb course quickly and in reverse. The Goodwood hillclimb consists of over a mile-long course, which the Nissan LEAF needed to complete as quickly as possible and while driving entirely in reverse. The electric car finished the challenge while driving approximately 55 mph, breaking a new record. Operated by stunt driver Terry Grant, the LEAF proved its capabilities in speed, maneuverability and performance in a rather offbeat manner.
Capable of achieving the equivalent of 106 mpg, the 100% electric LEAF was designed to offer the most efficiency found in any vehicle to date. With a maximum speed of 90 mph and a top range of up to 100 miles when fully charged, the electric car is set to change the auto industry in a big way.
