Former U.S. comptroller general Charles Bowsher has been tapped to be a director on the board of SI International Inc., the provider of technology services to the federal government said Monday. SI International shareholders will vote on Bowsher's nomination at the company's shareholders' meeting in June.

As comptroller general from 1981 to 1996, Bowsher headed the General Accounting Office, the investigative arm of Congress. He also worked at Arthur Andersen for 21 years and spent four years as assistant secretary of the Navy for finance management.

SI International CEO Ray Oleson, noting Bowsher's expertise in auditing and accountability, says the former comptroller general will advise the company on corporate governance and financial matters.

Bowsher is a trustee of the Center for Naval Analysis, the Logistics Management Institute, the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, the Concord Coalition, and the Hitachi Foundation, and serves on advisory boards of several universities. He's the former chairman of the Public Oversight Board, an independent, private group that monitored and reported on the self-regulatory programs and activities of the Security and Exchange Commission's Practice Section of the Division for CPA firms of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He's a graduate of the University of Illinois with a major in accounting and received an MBA from the University of Chicago.
