WorldCom last week unveiled two public peering exchanges: the MAE (Metropolitan Area Exchange) Chicago Internet Exchange and MAE New York Internet Exchange, which should give the Internet a capacity boost. The exchanges, where Internet service providers link with each other and the public Internet, join five other WorldCom MAEs. The newer exchanges also permit peering at 2.5 Gbps, up from the older exchanges' 622 Mbps, and let ISPs provision their own peering services.
