Computer Associates International Inc. plans to launch next week an upgrade of its output-management software for the mainframe that the company says will simplify viewing, archiving, printing and distributing electronic documents.
CA-Spool Print Management r11, CA-View r11 and CA-Deliver r11, all part of the Unicenter brand, simplify operations for customers using Z/OS mainframes in conjunction with distributed environments.
CA-Spool can handle all printing and spooling tasks throughout an enterprise, CA-View is an automated system that provides immediate online viewing of mainframe output, and CA-Deliver is an online report management system that automates distribution, tracking and printing.
New features in CA-Spool include a Web interface and the ability to transform traditional basic text formats into today's standard file formats, including PDF, HTML and RTF. Documents can be automatically emailed to a user's desktop, and security has been improved with encryption to the printer.
The latest version of CA-View provides indexing of reports based on customer-defined criteria, enabling users to find specific data within large reports by keying on fields, such as "account number" or "region."
Finally, CA-Deliver includes new report profiles and distribution capabilities that support field-level auditing and cross checking. The audit capabilities are important for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulations, which can require highly granular auditing of access to content within reports, officials with Islandia, N.Y.-based, CA said.
The three upgrades are expected to be available on Monday.
