Hewlett-Packard on Monday introduced three consumer desktops and a 500-GB central storage device for a home or small-business PC network.
The Pavilion machines for consumers include one optimized for entertainment, another for energy efficiency, and a third for people looking for a low-priced computer. The Compaq Presario for business is also a value-priced system, at less than $500. All the machines are customizable.
The Pavilion Elite m9200t is billed as an "ultimate entertainment" system. The base configuration includes Windows Vista Home Premium, a 2.66-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 processor, 2 GB of memory, a 256-MB Nvidia GeForce 8400 graphics card, a 320-GB hard drive, a CD-DVD drive, and TV tuner and remote. The new product starts at $799.
For consumers looking for an energy-efficient PC with enough horsepower for some entertainment-related tasks, HP launched the Pavilion a6460t. The base configuration includes Vista Home Premium, a 2.6-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 processor, 2 GB of memory, an integrated graphics chipset from Intel, a 320-GB hard drive, and a CD-DVD drive. The a6460t is certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program. Pricing starts at $549.
For people looking for a low-cost desktop, the Pavilion a6400z starts at $300. The base configuration is Vista Home Basic, a 1.8-GHz Advanced Micro Devices Sempron dual-core 2100 processor, 1 GB of memory, a 250-GB hard drive, a CD/DVD drive, and a choice between two graphics cards: an integrated 128-MB Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE or a 256-MB ATI Radeon HD 3450.
For network-attached storage for the home or small business, HP introduced the 500-GB Media Vault mv2120. The device includes remote access and HP's Photo Webshare and iTunes server software. Webshare enables people to create a photo-sharing Web site, and the iTunes server can centralize a music library for playback on any computer running iTunes on the network. The Media Vault sells for $299.
