T-Mobile USA continued to report stellar results in announcing its fourth-quarter 2007 figures, including the addition of 951,000 net new customers and revenue of $4.4 billion.
This was up from the 2006 fourth quarter, when the company added 901,000 customers and had $3.81 billion in revenue. At the end of 2007, T-Mobile, the fourth-largest cell phone service provider in the United States, had 28.7 million customers.
"In 2007, we increased growth to more than 3.6 million net new customers," said Robert Dotson, T-Mobile USA's CEO and president, in a statement. "MyFaves was a major contributor with 5 million customers at year end using the service."
The company, a unit of Germany's Deutsche Telekom, has introduced a series of innovative features and services, including its Talk Forever Home Phone, which it is testing in Dallas and Seattle, and its HotSpot@Home, which enables users to make unlimited nationwide Wi-Fi calls in their homes.
The company is said to be poised to launch its $4 billion nationwide Advanced Wireless Services network soon. The company recently announced an all-inclusive $99.99-a-month calling plan, which also includes text messages in the price.
Something lacking in the T-Mobile USA portfolio is Apple's iPhone or a similar touch-screen handset. The parent company, however, is the exclusive provider of the iPhone in Germany and Austria.
Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann praised the results of the U.S. operation, taking note of its consistent double-digit growth. Deutsche Telekom, which also reported its latest earnings on Thursday, cited the growth of the U.S. unit for contributing to its earnings of $29 billion (19.3 euros) in 2007.
