Verio Inc. on Thursday launched online tools that enable customers of its hosted Website service to set up and manage distribution of podcasts through RSS feeds.

Verio, the Centennial, Colo., subsidiary, of NTT Communications Group, provides hosting and Internet services to small and medium-sized companies. With the new service, SMBs would record video or audio podcasts separately, and then use the tool for distribution.

The service is geared toward customers with limited technical knowledge of RSS, a syndication technology based on XML, Verio officials said. The tool comes with an intuitive Web interface for configuring, uploading, accessing and managing podcasts.

Companies also can use the service's file management tool to set up the necessary configuration to register podcasts with Apple Computer's iTunes directory.

The new service is available at no charge for Verio customers.
