The assets for sale offer a cost-effective solution to the traditionally expensive implementation process used to enhance existing EAS systems with child monitoring systems. Conventional EAS systems are used for protecting sales products in retail stores by attaching EAS markers to these products. These markers generate an electromagnetic field at the store's exit by using EAS transmitters. When enhancing such systems for child monitoring, conventional systems either monitor children within a defined area or within a framework of an individual system – via a child wearing a tag and the parent carrying a control unit. Such systems generate an audio alarm when the child leaves the defined area. However, implementation of this child monitoring system within an environment having an EAS system, such as a retail store or a hospital, is a costly solution.

The portfolio includes an improved, cost-effective technique for monitoring the departure of a person from an EAS system-installed area. In one embodiment, the assets describe a passive magneto mechanical tag that is attached to a child and used to generate an electromagnetic field whenever the child tries to depart from the exit. This magneto mechanical tag is constructed by using two EAS markers, improving the detection capability of the system. Further, this tag can also generate an alarm or alert when the child departs through the exit. In another embodiment, an active tag will itself alarm as well as trigger the EAS system alarm as the tag passes through the protected exit. Therefore, a child monitoring functionality in the pre-existing EAS system is achieved that is more cost-effective, efficient, and reliable. Also, this system can be implemented in hospitals, daycare facilities, and nursing homes for patient monitoring resulting in improved patient safety.
