Matthew Neely Promoted to Drive New Team Focused on Innovation, Tools & Techniques

CLEVELAND, Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SecureState today announced that Matthew Neely will lead the new Research & Innovation Team (R&I). The R&I Team will provide up to date threat intelligence and solutions to challenging problems by developing new tools and techniques that extend SecureState's practices and methodologies. Visitors to the site are invited to peruse the open source tools routinely released by the R&I Team on the SecureState tools page and to suggest ideas for new projects.

"I am excited about the opportunity to lead our R&I team and tackle challenges facing the industry," said Neely. "By building an extension of our security team, we are maximizing capabilities and expertise, essentially positioning SecureState, our clients and the community for great success."

SecureState provides a variety of services within the R&I group. Whether it is reviewing a new technology or developing a new exploit, the R&I team can tackle the toughest problems. Most recently, the team released the full open source code of The Termineter Framework, with the goal of promoting security awareness for Smart Meters.

"The R&I Team provides the ability to develop, adapt and imagine methodologies and capabilities for unknown, dynamic or challenging environments," said Ken Stasiak, CEO of SecureState. "We look forward to embarking on a new avenue with the goal of solving industry related issues through research and collaboration."

Before taking over as the Director of Research, Innovation and Strategic Initiatives, Neely served as the VP of Consulting and Manager of the Profiling and Penetration Team. Prior to SecureState, Neely worked in the security department at a top 10 bank, where he developed a corporate wide anti-malware strategy covering workstations, servers, email infrastructure, and mobile. He also led an incident response team, developing and running a Technical Surveillance Counter Measure (TSCM) group focused on executive protection.

Neely has spoken at over 75 local and national conferences, including Defcon, ShmooCon, The Next HOPE, MIS InfoSec World, The Financial Services Technology Consortium (FSTC) Annual Conference, and Notacon. Neely is heavily involved in the security community. He is an active member of InfraGard, ISSA, ASIS, OWASP, and the Northeastern Ohio Information Security Forum (NEOISF). He founded and runs the Cleveland chapter of The Open Organization Of Lockpickers (TOOOL). TOOOL is an international organization devoted to advancing public knowledge of locks and lockpicking.
