Compressus Enters Software Licensing Deal to Drive Healthcare IT Integration
Nov 22, 2011 (03:11 PM EST)

WASHINGTON, Nov. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Compressus Inc., a leader in healthcare  interoperability and workflow solutions, today announced it has selected IBM software to connect radiology systems seamlessly with other healthcare systems to help physicians be more efficient, increase patient safety, and  improve patient outcomes.

Medical images are driving rapid growth of digital information that must be integrated throughout healthcare systems so they can be used to generate more insight on patient care. Clinical images are expected to account for 52 percent of digital data due to increased use of digital imaging, according to Enterprise Strategy Group. While healthcare providers struggle to keep up with the exponential growth of digital images, they are also in need of new ways to ensure these images can be shared quickly and efficiently among clinicians, and that important radiology data can be accessed as part of electronic health records, and clinical and financial systems.

Compressus is addressing this interoperability issue by embedding IBM Initiate, DB2, Cognos, and WebSphere software into its MEDxConnect™ platform. MEDxConnect offers clients an easy way to control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning of a patient between disparate systems. Compressus is validating their integrated MEDxConnect solution to IBM's Health Integration Framework, which provides clients with an industry-specific foundation geared to help accelerate transformation projects.

"With the number of diagnostic medical imaging exams predicted to grow exponentially, seamless connectivity among imaging acquisition devices with multiple healthcare information systems remains one of the healthcare industry's biggest challenges," said Dan Pelino, general manager, IBM Healthcare and Life Sciences.  "With IBM's proven software foundation and Compressus' healthcare interoperability expertise, healthcare providers will be able to get more insight from their radiology data and use it in new ways to improve patient care and operational efficiency."

MEDxConnect acts as a communication platform allowing information exchange to occur enterprise-wide, giving physicians access to all pertinent patient information in a consistent format.  The solution is customizable and manages auto-routing for subspecialty reads which improves workflow.  The result is higher throughput with improved accuracy and productivity to help improve the quality of patient care.

"The integration of IBM software and healthcare industry framework offers a new level of flexibility and scalability, but more importantly it helps automate the process of getting critical data to all the right health information systems so it can be used in new ways to meet the growing demands of healthcare providers and their patients," said John B. Macfarlane, CEO, at Compressus.
