Online K-12 school CEO Dr. Nick Trombetta is 'Top Executive'
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Nick Trombetta and the online school he founded and leads, the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, took top honors among large organizations in the Pittsburgh region in the "Top Places to Work" program sponsored by the Post-Gazette newspaper.
Dr. Trombetta "inspires and motivates everyone around him," one employee told Workplace Dynamics in the opinion survey which formed the basis for the awards, the first such study conducted by Workplace Dynamics for the Post-Gazette. A special section in the Oct. 6 Post-Gazette details how small, medium and large employers were ranked by those who work for them.
PA Cyber was ranked as the top workplace for the Pittsburgh region among companies employing 500 or more, and CEO Dr. Trombetta was named top executive in the same category. The rankings remained a closely guarded secret until announced at an evening awards ceremony Oct. 5 at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.
Workplace Dynamics said 27,402 employees at 155 nominated companies took the survey, resulting in selection of 85 of them to "Top Workplaces" lists. PA Cyber's results placed it at the head of 15 large Pittsburgh companies including Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services, Consol Energy Inc., FedEx Ground, Cochran automotive and Bayer Corp.
In presenting the executive award to Dr. Trombetta, Stephen B. Spolar, vice president of human resources for the Post-Gazette, used Dr. Trombetta's own words to explain PA Cyber's success: "Serve the students, serve the families, and serve each other. If we do that job, PA Cyber will be here for a long time."
Elisabeth Geer, client services manager for Workplace Dynamics, said 560 out of PA Cyber's 695 employees (81 percent) responded to the survey and filed an additional 1,200 comments about the online school in their own words.
Among their comments:
"I have endless opportunities to positively impact both coworkers and the children of our future."
"PA Cyber is always reinventing itself. Always looking for new and cutting-edge ways to educate the students."
Employees said of Dr. Trombetta that he "has a sense of compassion for students and fellow workers. Understands that to make a company great, employees need to feel needed and appreciated. . . has done a fabulous job in making a difference in the little town of Midland."
