AT&T Outlines Free Wi-Fi Service in Conjunction with HARLEM WEEK 2011
Jul 14, 2011 (07:07 PM EDT)

NEW YORK CITY, July 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Gracie Mansion kick-off reception today for HARLEM WEEK 2011, AT&T* announced the availability of free Wi-Fi service for HARLEM WEEK from Sunday, July 31, through Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

HARLEM WEEK attendees with smartphones, tablets and other Wi-Fi enabled devices will get access to AT&T Wi-Fi free of charge within a coverage area along West 135th Street from St. Nicholas Avenue to Harlem Hospital Center, between Malcolm X Boulevard and 5th Avenue, for the entire month.

"We've been stepping up our commitment in New York City and in Harlem and providing New Yorkers with free Wi-Fi during HARLEM WEEK is just one more way that we're doing this," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T in New York and New Jersey. "We are delighted to provide free and easy access to AT&T's Wi-Fi network for attendees throughout the month."

"Having access to fast broadband will help Harlem residents, New Yorkers and visitors attending HARLEM WEEK to better share their festival experience," DeVito noted.

"AT&T's provision of Wi-Fi service in honor of HARLEM WEEK 2011 is more tangible evidence of the company's continuing support of the Harlem community.   For the first time ever, hundreds of thousands of people who attend HARLEM WEEK and use Wi-Fi enabled devices will enjoy HARLEM WEEK even more with the added value of free Wi-Fi which will greatly enrich an already wonderful experience," said Lloyd A. Williams, President and CEO of The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.

AT&T reaffirmed its commitment to providing the best network and best broadband experience in New York City when on June 9, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and AT&T Chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson announced a five-year initiative to provide free Wi-Fi service at 26 locations in 20 New York City parks across the five boroughs.

In addition to its city parks and HARLEM WEEK coverage, AT&T has Wi-Fi hotzones in New York City's Times Square, near Rockefeller Center, near St. Patrick's Cathedral, along Park Ave. and near Ed Sullivan Theater to supplement mobile broadband coverage in areas with consistently high traffic.

AT&T operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network** with more than 24,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to more than 135,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.

AT&T remains focused on delivering the best wireless service in areas of Harlem neighborhoods, increasing the amount of network capacity and radio performance in Central Harlem while providing enhanced in-building coverage through new technology upgrades. As a result, residents and visitors should benefit from an enhanced mobile broadband experience.
