NEW YORK, June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Baseball fans have broken online balloting records at MLB.com with a full week remaining to cast votes exclusively online via the 2011 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot Sponsored by Sprint. Entering the frenetic final week of online voting, fans have cast 18.5 million ballots and 250 million votes, shattering the all-time online record for each from 2009 (17.7 million; 223.4 million, respectively). With millions of votes being cast daily, many of the closest races for the 16 starting position players in the 82nd All-Star Game will be decided at the wire when the 2011 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot Sponsored by Sprint officially closes at 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, June 30.
To further online support opportunities over the final week of balloting, fans also can use designated Twitter hashtags to promote and rally votes for their favorite players across each League's races, including those tightest races as of the last balloting update listed below. MLB.com will keep tabs on the identified hashtag usage and provide up-to-the-moment updates from @MLB on which players gain the most support from their fans' social media mobilization efforts and how that may be impacting the final week of online voting at MLB.com and the 30 Club Web sites.
The 2011 American and National League All-Star Teams and the 10 candidates for the 2011 All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote Sponsored by Sprint will be unveiled during the 2011 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show presented by Taco Bell at 12:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, July 3 on TBS.
