Google's Former Head of Marketing Scott Epstein Joins Tout as Chief Marketing Officer
SAN FRANCISCO, June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tout, a new social video platform that enables iPhone and iPad users to easily capture 15-second real-time video status updates and instantly share them via Twitter and Facebook, today announced that Scott Epstein has joined the rapidly-growing company as Chief Marketing Officer. Epstein brings a wealth of Internet marketing experience, including key marketing positions at Plaxo and Google, where he served as the company's head of marketing.
"Scott began working with Tout as an advisor and immediately saw the product's huge potential. We are proud that he chose to help us realize our vision of a new kind of real-time media network," said Michael Downing, CEO of Tout. "As Tout continues to engage new users and grow mass adoption, Scott's proven expertise in Internet marketing will be a huge asset to the company."
"I believe 2011 will be the year real-time video messaging on mobile breaks out, and Tout is poised to lead the charge," said Epstein. "I am thrilled to join Tout's executive management team and I look forward to helping the company build a user base who wants to connect around moments of their lives - as well as influencers looking to engage with their fans and add a new dimension to their social media efforts."
Before Tout, Epstein was recognized for spearheading the marketing effort (which included one of the first Internet brands to execute a national advertising campaign) to launch Excite, an early search engine, which propelled the tiny startup as a key competitor to Yahoo! Epstein later went on to co-found Spinner.com, which defined online programmed radio and was sold to AOL for $320 million, before defining Google's and Plaxo's marketing strategies. Prior to his work in the online world, Epstein held positions in brand marketing at Miller Brewing Company and Burson-Marsteller.
Tout, which launched only seven weeks ago, recently received national attention for having served as the vehicle elected by Shaquille O'Neal to announce his retirement from the NBA. In less than one week, the company has built a large audience of over 2MM users. Tout's mobile app is currently available for free download for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or iPad2. It will be available for Android in July.
Headquartered in San Francisco, Tout is a social media technology company whose iPhone application enables real-time video status updates that can be shared instantly with friends, family or the whole world through Facebook, Twitter and iPhone contacts. Tout enables users to capture quick 15-second videos in 1-click. These updates are then shared in real-time directly from the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or the iPad 2 and on Tout.com. Tout is a technology spin-out of SRI (Stanford Research Institute).
