Q1 Sales Up Over 56 Percent As E-Commerce Home Goods Leader Continues Rapid Expansion
BOSTON, April 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CSN Stores (www.csnstores.com), the third-largest online retailer of home goods in the U.S., had a record-breaking first quarter this year, with sales for January, February and March up over 56 percent compared to the same period last year. This milestone also marks the best quarter in the company's nine-year history, as CSN continues to surge.
"Our holiday sales season in 2010 was the best quarter we had ever experienced – but then we were able to beat that again in Q1 2011," said Niraj Shah, CSN Stores' CEO and Co-Founder. "It's rare for a retailer's first quarter of a year to trump the holiday season just prior to it and that's what we just did. That's a very promising sign for the rest of this year and beyond."
Some of the fastest-growing categories at CSN Stores so far in 2011 include: outdoor furniture and gardening equipment, pet goods, toys, tools, and flooring, which were all up by more than 60 percent over Q1, 2010. In particular, sales of swing sets, bikes and scooters were up by more than 150 percent compared to the same period last year.
This growth follows more than two years of investment by the company, which focused on expanding CSN's North American and European businesses. To help accommodate and accelerate the North American expansion, CSN is preparing to open a second U.S. distribution and customer care center, located in Ogden, Utah, within the next month.
For both its Boston and Ogden facilities, CSN is now trying to fill more than 100 new positions, which include: sales, service and e-mail consultants, site directors, category managers, software engineers and many other positions. CSN created and filled more than 250 new positions last year and currently employs more than 725 globally.
