Harold M. Koenig, M.D. Vice Admiral, US Navy, Retired Chief Medical Officer, Awarepoint
He retired in 1998 as Surgeon General of the Navy and Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery with the permanent rank of Vice Admiral after a 32-year Navy career.
Dr. Koenig is Chairman of the Board and President of The Annapolis Center for Science Based Public Policy and is a partner in Edward Martin & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm to the healthcare industry and healthcare information management and technology companies. From 1999 through 2003 he wrote a monthly editorial column for U.S. Medicine, the voice of federal medicine. Dr. Koenig has served on several corporate boards and advisory boards including the National Environmental Health Center and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Reporting at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
During his career, Dr. Koenig served in a variety of positions including general medical officer, residency-training program director, department chairman, Executive Officer of Naval Hospital Portsmouth, and Commanding Officer, of Naval Hospital, San Diego and the Naval Health Sciences Education and Training Command, Bethesda. After selection for promotion to Flag rank in 1988, he served in a variety of positions including Director, Health Care Operations in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) and Deputy Surgeon General of the Navy.
He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Brigham Young University and Baylor University College of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology, is a Diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives and received "The 1994 Federal Health Care Executive Award for Excellence" from the American Hospital Association.
James A. Johnson, Jr., M.D., Rear Admiral US Navy, Retired Executive Advisory Board Member, Awarepoint
Rear Admiral Johnson retired in 2005 as the Director of TRICARE Regional Operations West, after nearly 30 years of service with the US Navy. During his distinguished career, Dr. Johnson serviced as Chief Executive Officer of Naval Medical Center in San Diego, Medical Officer of the Marine Corps, and Principal Deputy for Clinical and Program Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. He is a former CEO of Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. As a consultant, he focuses on the defense, healthcare, and technology sectors.
Dr. Johnson earned certificates from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Medical Management. His affiliation with civilian medical organizations include his status as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Wye River Group for Healthcare Policy, and he is a member of the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. Dr. Johnson earned his undergraduate degree in Biology/Chemistry at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio and his Medical Degree at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He served both his general surgery internship and residency at the University of California at Los Angeles.
