Wideband Radios Praised for Bringing Networking Capabilities, High-Bandwidth Applications to Battlefield

WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- C4ISR Journal has named Harris Corporation's Falcon® multiband software-defined tactical radios as a Big 25 award winner for 2010  in the category of network systems.  The magazine's Big 25 Awards recognize technologies that are having "a significant impact in defeating terrorists, preventing attacks, and enabling troops to make the right decisions on the battlefield."

C4ISR's award cites both the Harris AN/PRC-117F and its wideband successor, the AN/PRC-117G.  The Falcon II® AN/PRC-117F multiband manpack radio was the first radio to integrate multiple frequency bands and waveforms in a single device, making it possible for forces to use one radio instead of many to communicate across the military enterprise.

The Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G is the first JTRS Software Communications Architecture (SCA) certified and NSA Type-1 certified wideband networking radio.  The AN/PRC-117G delivers networking capabilities to forces on-the-move as well as access to high-bandwidth applications such as streaming video and collaborative chat.

C4ISR Journal noted that the AN/PRC-117G is enabling some of the wideband networking capabilities for warfighters today originally envisioned by the Joint Tactical Radio System.  The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G and entire Falcon III® family of radios are becoming the standard for advanced tactical communications throughout the world, having been widely adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies and key allies such as Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

"C4ISR Journal's recognition mirrors the feedback we receive constantly from users in the field," said Maj. Gen. Dennis Moran (Ret.), vice president, Government Business Development, Harris RF Communications.  "The Harris AN/PRC-117G is enhancing mission success and situational awareness by bringing broadband to the battlefield.  This dramatically expands the amount of information that can flow to or from the battlefield through real-time networking and enables bandwidth-intensive applications such as video, imagery, and combat chat, as well as ISR capabilities such as biometrics and position location information."

C4ISR Journal covers the fields of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.  The magazine was launched in 2002 to fill the need for an authoritative information source on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, a fast-growing field that is shaping the face of modern warfare.
