LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- CortiSlim International, LLC, a leading nutritional supplement company, and Aeron LifeCycles Clinical Laboratory have jointly co-sponsored The Cortisol Connection, a new resource website (www.Cortisol.com) designed to educate individuals about the connection between cortisol, stress and weight gain. The new website also provides people with a way to have their own cortisol level tested.

Currently more than one in four Americans is clinically obese, resulting in over 300,000 preventable deaths each year along with a variety of malignant and degenerative diseases. There is solid evidence that a sedentary, inactive lifestyle, combined with a diet of high fat, processed and sugar-filled foods, is contributing to this epidemic. However, researchers have also found that being obese or overweight may not simply be just the result of overeating or lack of physical activity. Excessive and prolonged stress can cause the body to produce too much cortisol, a steroid hormone produced in the cortex of the adrenal glands, which can play a role in craving "comfort" foods, overeating, feeling fatigued, and storing excess body fat.

The Cortisol Connection website provides important information about the role of cortisol and the connection cortisol has to stress and stress related eating. The website also allows people to test their cortisol levels at home though a simple saliva collection kit. The cortisol testing is performed by Aeron LifeCycles Clinical Laboratory, a specialty lab with over fifteen years of experience measuring hormone levels, headquartered in San Leandro, CA.

"We want people to have access to objective, factual information about cortisol and its connection to stress, weight gain and weight management. And we want people to be able to easily and safely test their own cortisol level. This new website achieves both objectives and further supports our commitment to helping our customers achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle," said Alan Sporn, CEO of CortiSlim International, LLC.

"We are delighted to participate in this new resource website.  We think cortisol testing through our simple yet highly accurate saliva analysis is a perfect application for this hormone. We see this website as an innovative new way to expand our testing capabilities and reaching the people who can most use our services," said John M. Kells, President/CEO of Aeron LifeCycles Clinical Laboratory.
