AT&T Tennessee donates $25,000 to relief efforts, provides wireless access
NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Tennessee officials today praised state and local flood response efforts and pledged support for relief efforts, including a $25,000 corporate donation to the Red Cross to assist the victims of the flooding that has severely impacted Nashville, Middle- and West-Tennessee and other parts of the state.
In further support of those affected by the floods and related relief efforts, AT&T Tennessee has supplied designated relief shelters across the state with wireless cell phones made available for those in need of phone service and communications support. Additionally, the company has announced that phone bank trucks, sophisticated communications vehicles featuring satellite wireless service with 24 cell phone lines apiece and Wi-Fi connections, have been dispatched to the two disaster assistance centers established in Nashville.
"The flooding here has been unprecedented, causing tragedy for thousands of Tennessee families," said Gregg Morton, president of AT&T Tennessee. "I would like to commend Governor Bredesen, Nashville Mayor Dean and all the state and local officials whose communities were affected for their quick response to this crisis and for helping to facilitate recovery efforts. This is the Volunteer State and, acting together, all of us will meet this challenge."
Provided by AT&T Mobility, the cell phones provide unlimited voice and data airtime for the use of those in the shelters and have been distributed to relief shelters established at the following locations: David Lipscomb University in Nashville; the Jewish Community Center in Nashville; Al Menah Shrine Temple in Mt. Juliet; Peoples Church in Franklin, Jackson Civic Center in Jackson, Ed Rice Community Center in Memphis; and the Dyersburg Red Cross.
The two wireless phone bank trucks will be located at the recently announced disaster assistance stations at the Bellevue Community Center and the Coleman Community Center, both in areas of Nashville particularly hard hit by the flooding.
