Surgical Information Systems Recognizes Clients at 2010 SIS Congress
Apr 15, 2010 (04:04 PM EDT)
ATLANTA, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Surgical Information Systems (SIS), the perioperative expert, recently honored outstanding hospitals for excellence in operational, financial and patient safety initiatives at the company's annual client congress in Atlanta. SIS Congress brings together clients, strategic partners and industry leaders to network and share best practices. At the event, SIS recognized hospitals and health systems using SIS solutions to bring about remarkable results in their operating rooms. Client Recognition Awards were given to the following health care providers:
O'Connor Hospital – San Jose, CA
Operational Excellence Award
Perioperative staff at O'Connor Hospital utilized SIS to drive efficiencies that continue to impact the entire organization. By moving from an all-paper documentation process to SIS, they reduced pre-op admittance times from one hour to about ten minutes. They also used SIS Analytics to track data for operational change and to measure success against key national benchmarks.
Orlando Health Systems – Orlando, FL
Patient Safety Excellence Award
The team at Orlando Health has used the SIS Solution to track and improve patient safety as part of a quality initiative. The system was able to drastically improve its ability to meet national patient safety benchmarks using data from SIS. In 2009 it successfully met the HQA prophylactic antibiotic administration benchmark of 100%.
St. Vincent's East – Birmingham, AL
Financial & Administrative Excellence Award
St. Vincent's East used the SIS Solution to improve their financial and accounting processes. By the automation of pick sheets, the organization was able to bring about a savings of $58,000 in 2009, and has realized a 25% reduction in lost charges.
Huntsville Hospital – Huntsville, AL
Financial & Administrative Excellence Award
OR and Anesthesia staff at Huntsville Hospital realized significant financial turnarounds with a system including SIS Anesthesia. Prior to implementation of SIS Anesthesia, the time for billing from case completion was 24 to 48 hours. Now the information for billing is immediately available. They used specialized SIS processes to charge for bundled anesthesia items, enabling them to capture charges that had previously been lost due to inaccurate documentation.
University of California, Irvine Medical Center – Orange, CA
Product Leadership Award
The SIS Product Leadership Award honors clients with a special blend of leadership and innovation that play an integral role in positioning SIS as an industry leader. The University of California, Irvine Medical Center received the award this year because of its work in helping to improve the features and functions of SIS Anesthesia, and for using the system to bring about significant financial, operational and clinical outcomes.
"SIS clients are using their systems in innovative ways to meet the unique demands of today's healthcare environment," said SIS CEO Ed Daihl. "These are health care providers that truly understand the importance of the perioperative department as the financial engine of the hospital, and the area where most hospital-acquired infections originate. By partnering with SIS – the only company dedicated exclusively to solving these challenges – they are improving operations in the OR and impacting quality and financial outcomes for the entire enterprise."
Attendees to SIS Congress received live training, shared best practices, and learned from industry leaders including Anthony Burke, President and CEO of AHA Solutions, and Linda Groah, Executive Director and CEO of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). They also had the opportunity to get hands-on with new SIS solutions such as SIS OR View, the first fully integrated in-room perioperative dashboard, featuring a real-time display that completely evolves the way perioperative teams work together by providing visual communication of pertinent case information for the entire OR care team.
Kim Gordon from St. Vincent's East, who accepted the Financial and Administrative Excellence award, said that she most valued the knowledge-sharing that occurred at the event. "SIS Congress was very informational and all of the presenters articulated each piece of the SIS application well," said Gordon. "A lot of much-needed information was shared regarding today's data integrity and creating an electronic medical record."
SIS provides software solutions that are uniquely designed to add value at every point of the perioperative process. Developed specifically for the complex surgical environment, all SIS solutions – including anesthesia – are architected on a single database and integrate easily with other hospital systems. SIS offers the only surgical scheduling system endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA), and a rules-based charging system that has been granted Peer Reviewed status by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
