2010 North of Boston Business Plan Competition Announces Six Semi-Finalists

Biotech, insurance, internet, and green growth companies make semi-finals

BOSTON, March 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2010 North of Boston Business Plan Competition today announced the six semi-finalists who will compete for $10,000 in prize money.  The companies range from green to biotech, from insurance to internet. Hosted by the Enterprise Center at Salem State College, the competition showcases new growth companies on the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.  An expert panel of 19 judges who are investors, bankers, and community and business leaders selected the six semi-finalists this week.

Semi-finalists include:

BIOARRAY Therapeutics, Inc. - a biotechnology company founded by women to help women with breast cancer by developing a new early detection test based on gene expression technology.  www.bioarray.us

EcoCentric Resources DBA TOPIA – online sales of environmentally responsible, non-toxic household products made with authentic natural ingredients, and "chlorine free" baby diapers and baby wipes directly to consumers. 

Local Ginger - A marketing communication channel to help local merchants reach likely customers through email and SMS technologies.  www.localginger.com

Lou Penn & Associates, Inc - an internet compliance software development and service company providing compliance solutions to the insurance industry. www.marketconduct.net

Solar Sheds - develops and markets energy conversion products for the solar photovoltaic industry.

Judges will select the top three contestants on March 31, 2010. These finalists will go on to make a public presentation starting at 3:00 p.m. on April 12th at Salem State College's Recital Hall, 352 Lafayette St. First prize is $5,000.
