Kognitio Delivers on Port of WX2 Database to Sun's Solaris 10 Operating System
Nov 05, 2008 (08:11 AM EST)
NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Kognitio(R), a leading global provider of business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions, announced today it has completed its previously-announced development of a version of its WX2 analytical Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that runs on Sun Microsystems' Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS).
Today's announcement, made at the start of The Data Warehousing Institute's World Conference, confirms an announcement made earlier this year and keeps Kognitio on track to be the leading database vendor for high-scale business analytics, less than a year after the company entered the North American market. The company also said it remains on schedule to deliver a port of WX2 to Sun's OpenSolaris OS for early 2009.
"By delivering its port of the WX2 analytical database to the Solaris 10 OS, companies can now gain the benefits of a complete system that blends the performance of WX2, and the software needed to rapidly analyze multiple terabytes of information, running on Sun blades and rack-mounted servers," said Jim McHugh, vice president of Solaris marketing, Sun Microsystems. "This is good news for an industry that is working to bring advanced benefits to a wide range of firms. It's even better news, considering that those firms are not locked into high-cost proprietary systems; they are now able to scale their systems as they grow at a fraction of the cost it may have taken only several years ago."
Now in its sixth generation, Kognitio WX2 is the a most mature analytical database of its type on the market today, capable of helping mid-sized and larger enterprises alike gain unprecedented analytical access to, and insight from, massive amounts of data, thus allowing them to remain ahead of their competitors. More than twenty years of development enables Kognitio WX2 users to reliably gain greater benefits in less time; by enabling users to query, in detail, vast amounts of granular data in just seconds, tests have shown WX2 consistently obtains results several times faster than competing data warehouse appliances and 10-60 times faster than typical software-only databases.
WX2's flexible deployment options, ranging from software-only, to a packaged appliance that uses affordable, industry-standard hardware, to its innovative, outsourced Data Warehousing as a Service (DaaS(TM)) model, blend the lowest total cost of ownership in the market with the highest performance, making it a natural choice for companies seeking to extract value from their data.
Kognitio, an Associate Partner in the Sun Partner Advantage Program, has emerged as a leader in the markets it serves, with blue-chip organizations like BT, Loyalty Management Group, Scottish Power, and the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) relying on WX2. Moreover, Kognitio's innovative, flexible capacity-based pricing and deployment strategies allow companies to better allocate their assets across multiple locations without the need to buy separate licenses for each site, a clear advantage for larger firms.
"By delivering on our previously announced strategy, we are sending a clear statement to the marketplace that we are fulfilling the necessary steps to enhance Kognitio's positioning as a leading player in business analytics market," said John K. Thompson, Kognitio's CEO, US Operations. "The evolving data warehousing and business intelligence markets require powerful performance, coupled with the ability to work with a wide range of low-cost, commodity hardware; proprietary solutions no longer meet the needs of end-users in this segment. Sun's focus on open standards is consistent with this approach; porting WX2 to the Solaris 10 OS and OpenSolaris OS enables more firms than ever before to gain the benefits from analyzing multiple terabytes of information in a fraction of the time they previously required, gaining the insights they need to outperform their competitors."
