Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas Taps Aegis Health Group to Tie Hospital Programs With Local Employee Health Risks
Aug 27, 2008 (08:08 AM EDT)
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, the flagship hospital of the Presbyterian Healthcare System, has engaged Aegis Health Group to assist in a new community-based effort designed to improve local community health and save employers significant dollars in their healthcare expenditures, developing partnerships with local employers to improve the health of their workforce. For nearly 20 years Aegis has helped hospitals across the country form lasting relationships with area employers while improving the health of the workforce. Aegis' program can currently be found in more than 4,000 employer sites across the country.
The new initiative has been designed to effectively link the hospital's services and programs with the health-related needs of local employers and their workforce. Working in partnership, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Aegis and local employers will identify the health risks of local employees related to specific diseases (heart, cancer, diabetes, etc.) and then match at-risk employees with hospital-based early detection, prevention and education initiatives. This unique program joins the hospital and employers as true partners in health.
In support of this effort, Aegis will provide the hospital with its proprietary software and Internet applications as well as Aegis' employer-based health information centers, personal health surveys and personal health reports. Aegis will also provide a full-time "employer relations specialist" who will be stationed at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas to oversee this program on a day-to-day basis.
"We view this program as one more way that the hospital can make a positive and lasting impact on our community," said Sherry Mercer, director of finance for Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. "Working with local employers in this manner helps improve the health of the local community, reduce employee health costs, and align the services we are providing with the most important needs of our consumers."
At a time when healthcare costs are one of the single biggest expenses many employers face, partnering with the local hospital in this way has been shown in markets across the nation to save employers meaningful dollars in employee health costs, absenteeism, healthcare premiums, workers' compensation and other healthcare-related expenditures.
