The Open Group Names Jim Hietala Vice President of Security

SAN FRANCISCO, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced the appointment of Jim Hietala to vice president of security. A security industry veteran who has held senior leadership roles at numerous security and networking firms, Mr. Hietala will play an integral role in further developing The Open Group's contributions to the field of security, including The Open Group Security Forum.

Mr. Hietala will be responsible for all security activities within The Open Group, including strategy and direction for both the Security Forum and the Identity Management Forum, as well as creating standards and events focused on security. He will also oversee The Open Group's support of the Jericho Forum(TM), an international consortium focused on IT security requirements. Mr. Hietala will report to The Open Group president and CEO, Allen Brown.

Mr. Hietala has extensive experience within the security and networking industries. Prior to joining The Open Group, he served as Director of Marketing at ControlPath, a leading compliance and risk management software start-up. Mr. Hietala previously developed and launched the industry's first remote access VPN service at Concentric Network, and at Network Express he managed a business unit that developed and brought to market the first encrypting ISDN router. In addition, he has worked for eSoft, Avail Networks and Digital Pathways. Mr. Hietala worked for X/Open Company, which eventually helped form The Open Group, from 1991-93. In addition, he has served as a security and compliance consultant to numerous firms and has authored a training course on risk management. Mr. Hietala holds a Bachelor of Science from and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
