Pearson Announces PowerSchool Premier Support of Oracle
Jun 11, 2008 (08:06 AM EDT)

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Pearson today announced that its award-winning, web-based student information system, PowerSchool Premier, will now support Oracle(R) Database. When users install the latest version of PowerSchool Premier, a seamless upgrade process will automatically back up system data, install the Oracle Database, and then migrate the data.

"The PowerSchool platform has reflected a commitment to simplicity and innovation for over a decade. Part of this commitment includes a continual review and adjustment of the technological frameworks on which the system is based," said Mary McCaffrey, president of the School Systems group of Pearson. "As a result, we're pleased to announce that PowerSchool Premier will now support Oracle Database. We are confident that Oracle Database will help us provide a more robust, scalable and higher performing SIS solution."

With its deployment of Oracle Database, Pearson continues its tradition of providing student information systems that require minimal database administration resources. All system tasks, including backups, are performed automatically by the application. The current hardware requirements for PowerSchool Premier remain unchanged; no additional hardware will be required for this upgrade.

Additionally, the vast availability of resources, documentation, and tools for Oracle, available to Pearson through its membership in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, benefits Pearson's internal development and support teams as well as the PowerSchool Premier user community at large.

Oracle is the leading database management solution for enterprise applications and sets the standard for databases in functionality as well as performance. With Oracle's cross-platform capabilities, PowerSchool Premier will soon be able to run on Intel-based Macintosh hardware. Support for the Intel-based Mac hardware for database servers is scheduled to be available in Fall 2008. Full support of both the PowerSchool application and the Oracle Database is expected to be available in the second quarter, 2009. Pearson customers can run PowerTeacher classroom management tools on Intel-based Mac hardware today.

"Pearson's PowerSchool Premier student information system is built on a highly stable, powerful and scalable release strategy," said Diana Richie, Industry Director - K-12, Oracle. "Oracle's technology solutions paired with PowerSchool Premier will enable schools to better manage and leverage their wealth of data to enhance and empower overall student performance."
