Jun 02, 2008 (06:06 AM EDT)
NOVATO, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sonic Solutions(R) , the leader in digital media software, today announced that NEC Corporation has chosen to include Roxio BackOnTrack(TM) in its latest line of VALUESTAR desktop systems and LaVie notebook computers which launched recently in Japan. Roxio BackOnTrack helps secure consumers' personal digital media content and critical documents using an innovative triple-level protection scheme that includes an automated data backup application, a disaster recovery component, and an instant system recovery tool.
NEC is one of the world's leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions and has the largest share of the PC market in Japan. This latest agreement expands Sonic's long-standing relationship with NEC, which has bundled a number of Sonic's Roxio-branded digital media applications in previous product releases. Included in the VALUESTAR and LaVie bundle is an OEM version of Roxio Easy Media Creator(R).
"Computers are the keepers of our digital identities, storing everything from our treasured family photos and home movies to personal and financial information," said Koki Terui, senior vice president, Strategic Initiatives, Sonic Solutions. "By bundling BackOnTrack with its latest line of personal computers, NEC is providing its customers with an easy-to-use solution for securing irreplaceable personal digital media content. Our agreement with NEC helps Sonic increase brand awareness in Japan and grows our installed user base."
BackOnTrack includes a unique Instant Restore feature which enables consumers to go from a complete system failure or blue-screen crash to a functioning system in minutes. Instant Restore provides real-time protection from system corruption caused by viruses, rogue web downloads or accidental user actions. Users are able to automatically recover their operating system and all installed applications to any previously saved state, which increases customer satisfaction and reduces the support costs for PC makers like NEC. Complementing Instant Restore is the Disaster Recovery component which provides added security in case the hard drive is physically damaged or stolen. Disaster Recovery allows users to save a complete copy of their hard drive to optical media or an external drive that can be stored separately and used in case of an emergency. Completing the suite is a comprehensive File Backup component that protects users' valuable digital media against theft, damage, loss or accidental deletion.
