Cellnet+Hunt Successfully Certifies ZigBee Smart Energy Metering Interface

ATLANTA, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellnet+Hunt, a Promoter member of the ZigBee(R) Alliance, recently demonstrated interoperability of its FOCUS AX ZigBee smart metering interface and is among the first companies to earn ZigBee Certified Product status for products based on the ZigBee Smart Energy public application profile.

Cellnet+Hunt simultaneously completed certification of its ZigBee-enabled advanced metering solution in the Landis+Gyr FOCUS AX meter as both a ZigBee Smart Energy Services Portal (ESP) and a ZigBee Smart Energy Meter.

Compliance with the open ZigBee communication standard represents one approach Cellnet+Hunt is using to interact with in-home energy displays, smart thermostats and smart appliances.

"Our testing confirmed that ZigBee will enable our advanced metering customers to successfully send and receive information and commands to a variety of devices inside homes or businesses," said Letha McLaren, Personal Energy Management General Manager at Cellnet+Hunt. "We will begin deploying ZigBee-enabled technology at customer sites before the end of the year."

The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies that are developing a global standard for wireless networking of monitoring and control devices. ZigBee's Smart Energy Profile enables interoperable communication between smart metering systems and home-area networks for the purpose of promoting better energy management. This profile provides a communication link between Cellnet+Hunt's advanced meter systems and devices such as in-home displays, smart thermostats, appliance controls and other meters as an aid to energy efficiency, demand shedding and variable energy pricing programs.
