WatchGuard Takes Industry Innovation Lead in Utilizing Online Video for Security Compliance
Nov 16, 2007 (08:11 AM EST)

SEATTLE, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- WatchGuard(R) Technologies, a leading provider of network security solutions, today announced the availability of "Bud Logs In," an entertaining and informative online video from WatchGuard's cutting-edge LiveSecurity(R) Service that allows compliance managers and network administrators of banks, hospitals, retailers and other organizations that must conform to stringent IT security regulations, to maintain industry best practices.

Many industry and federal regulations require information security training for their employees. These requirements are cited in ISO/IEC 27002 section 8.2.2, FISMA, NIST SP800 standards, and referenced in other high visibility regulations, such as HIPAA and PCI Compliance. The challenge for administrators and corporate compliance officers is to ensure employees are regularly trained and that corporate security policies are enforced. Recognizing that network administrators may need to focus their job skills on other functions than employee training, WatchGuard developed a rich media experience through its LiveSecurity Service to give IT staff a comprehensive, packaged program that keeps employees current on mandatory security practices.

"The video 'Bud Logs In' is an effective, entertaining and memorable lesson on password security," said Mark Burnett, author of Perfect Passwords, published by Syngress Publishing. "As I discussed in my book Perfect Passwords, the best password is a long password that you can easily remember and easily type, but no one else could guess. This video communicates these and other key principles of password security to users in a way much better than a written policy ever could."

"Bud Logs In" Exemplifies Light-hearted Training for a Serious Security Risk, Password Management

With nearly 80,000 LiveSecurity video downloads from Google and YouTube and thousands of podcast downloads of Radio Free Security, WatchGuard's LiveSecurity Service is no stranger to leveraging online media and Web 2.0 tools for IT needs. WatchGuard customers receive LiveSecurity content and training for free; however with this month's launch of "Bud Logs In," WatchGuard is providing this video for all to see at: http://www.watchguard.com/bud-logs-in/ .

"Because network administrators are often responsible for security compliance, their delivery of security measures can be filled with 'techno-speak' and jargon. This tends to cause many employees to tune their messages out, which is unfortunate," said Eric Aarrestad, vice president of marketing, WatchGuard. "WatchGuard's LiveSecurity videos and materials make security compliance training enjoyable, but more importantly, they put security front of mind, which is key in helping employees stay vigilant in maintaining data integrity."
