US Airways Contracts for PASSUR(R) Live Airspace Analysis Tools for Their Operations Control Center
Oct 12, 2007 (08:10 AM EDT)

GREENWICH, Conn., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Megadata Corporation announced today that US Airways is expanding its use of PASSUR aviation information solutions, by contracting for PASSUR FlightPerform(TM) live airspace analysis tools for improved airspace utilization, fuel management, and diversion management. The new software will be deployed at US Airways' Operations Control Center in Pittsburgh, and complements the existing use of PASSUR applications at US Airways' major hubs and large Northeast stations, used to improve passenger and baggage connection decisions; on-time performance and enhance the customer experience.

"This is the next step in our ongoing deployment of PASSUR at US Airways," said David Seymour, vice president operations control and planning for US Airways. "We have major operations in the most complex and congested airspace in the world; our focus is to generate all possible efficiencies out of that existing airspace infrastructure. This latest deployment of PASSUR tools will make us more effective in our interaction with Air Traffic Control to achieve favorable outcomes for our fleet -- and our passengers -- every day, while significantly affecting our operational costs. We have been very pleased with the deployment of PASSUR at the hub level, and we look forward to this expansion of our partnership."

"We have developed a host of solutions to help airlines reduce costs, and we're pleased to introduce another significant capability to US Airways," said Jim Barry, Megadata's president and CEO. "They have closely studied and analyzed the use of PASSUR tools at the system operations level, and have concluded that we will be able to offer the financial savings and operational efficiencies that are the prerequisite for any investment in new technology. We're very pleased."

This new phase of PASSUR implementation at US Airways will focus on System Operations issues, including:

-- Optimized fuel management through more accurate predictions of aircraft hold times in the terminal airspace; -- Real-time decision support to mitigate diversions related to weather and ATC issues; -- Continued evaluation of airport/airspace utilization allowing improved operational decisions in real time.

These benefits result from PASSUR FlightPerform real-time visualization of the airspace, which includes:

-- Access to the international network of proprietary PASSUR radar installations, covering the US Airways' network; -- True Tracking(TM) -- completely unique high resolution, 4.6 second aircraft update precision tracking of flight position driven by PASSUR radar updates; -- Comprehensive view of the airspace activity, including arrival and departure rates, real-time runway configurations, vectors, and miles- in-trail; -- Live analysis of airborne holds -- completely unique to PASSUR.
