Packeteer(R) Appoints Industry Veteran Ray Smets to Lead Worldwide Sales and Marketing Efforts

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Packeteer(R) , the global leader in WAN application delivery, today announced the appointment of Raymond Smets as vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. In this position reporting to the CEO, Mr. Smets will lead Packeteer's global sales and marketing teams and will be responsible for expanding Packeteer's worldwide market leadership in WAN Optimization, wide area file services (WAFS), and intelligent, high performance application delivery. Mr. Smets joins Packeteer after amassing a proven track record of more than 20 years leading high-technology businesses in strategic sales and marketing positions in the networking, telecom and security industries.

Smets joins Packeteer from Motorola where he served as the vice president of marketing for the Broadband Solutions Group where he was responsible for leading the customer marketing, product management and partnership development for the over half a billion dollar per year broadband customer premise equipment business. Prior to Motorola, Mr. Smets was senior vice president of sales and marketing at Netopia, Inc. where he lead sales, sales engineering, product management, marketing, business development and technical support for this worldwide technology provider of broadband and triple-play technology. Mr. Smets has also served as president of the Sniffer Technologies business, the global leader in enterprise application and network performance analysis technology, which was divested by Network Associates in 2004 to become Network General. Mr. Smets led the executive team that concluded this divestiture. Mr. Smets also served as president of BellSouth.net, Inc., where he managed the growth of the BellSouth Internet access business from start-up to among the top ten United States Internet service providers in its first two and a half years of operation.
