DataPath and Qualcomm Team to Offer Integrated SATCOM and Cellular Solutions
Sep 10, 2007 (08:09 AM EDT)

DULUTH, Ga., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- DataPath, Inc., a leading provider of satellite and wireless communications networks around the world, has signed a joint marketing agreement with Qualcomm whereby the two companies are working together to deliver integrated satellite and cellular communications solutions for battlefield and disaster situations.

As a first step in their joint marketing efforts, the companies have collaborated to design the Integrated Tactical Cellular Communications Solution (ITCCS), which links SATCOM connectivity with a deployable cellular base station to establish a local network for up to 150 simultaneous cell phone users, typically within a five to 10-mile radius. ITCCS can enable secure, mobile and high-bandwidth communications anywhere, even in locations or situations with little or no existing communications infrastructure.

To create the ITCCS, the two companies integrated the Qualcomm Deployable Base Station with the DataPath ET 3000 Portable(TM), also known as the Satellite Transportable Terminal (STT) used by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.

An integrated SATCOM and cellular system, ITCCS is a unique complement to traditional push-to-talk (PTT) systems used on the frontlines and in emergency management situations. The solution overcomes the limited bandwidth and privacy of PTT radios to deliver secure, mobile broadband communications that support continuous conversation without pausing for a response or going through typical radio protocols. The solution supports voice, video and data to CDMA cell phones, PDAs and laptop computers.

DataPath and Qualcomm demonstrated the ITCCS solution to U.S. military personnel at an AFCEA event in May at Fort Monmouth, N.J. For more information on the solution, visit .
