LOS ANGELES, July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa helped kick off Vice President Al Gore's LIVE EARTH concerts to fight Global Warming. Al Gore personally called the Mayor to ask that Los Angeles be the first city to create public awareness for LIVE EARTH and the campaign to stop the spread of global warming.

On July 2, 2007 at 8:30 pm, the Mayor was "Lighting the City Green" to raise awareness of the Live Earth concerts that will be happening in various cities around the world. Celebrities were on hand to help the Mayor click the switch to "green light" a legendary landmark building, the Department of Water and Power. Other Los Angeles landmarks that were "green lighted" include the Los Angeles Observatory, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and City Hall.

Celebrities joining Mayor Villaraigosa included Lawrence Bender (Producer, "An Inconvenient Truth"), Sharon Lawrence, Stephen Collins, Ed Begley, Jr., Daphne Zuniga, Lisa and Ron Beres (Co-Founders of GreenNest.com), Drew Heriot (Director of "The Secret") and Cisco Brothers.
