AT&T Thursday jumped the gun on its Windows Phone 7 launch by announcing it will offer new prepaid GoPhone plans on Oct 3. The plans offer unlimited talk and text options or unlimited talk and text with metered data use. There are several options and different phones available under the new GoPhone options, the firm said.
"Prepaid customers now have the flexibility to pay only on days used for unlimited talk and text without the commitment of an annual contract," said Judy Cavalieri, vice president of Prepaid Products for AT&T, in a statement. "Customers can have the unlimited talk and text plan for just two dollars per day that is only charged on the days they use their phone. "The plan is available for $2 a day and another simple rate plan allows customers to pay only 10 cents a minute.
A monthly talk and text plan is available for $60 a month with 200 MB data available for another $15 a month. Another option includes texting to more than 100 countries including Canada and Mexico. AT&T said a wide selection of handsets is available including the LG Prime, which is offered at various locations for $100.
The GoPhone plans will be offered a week before AT&T's planned unveiling of Microsoft's first Windows Phone 7 devices, scheduled for unveiling October 11. European reporters and analysts have been alerted that they will be able to get "hands-on opportunities with WP7 devices" in London on Oct 11. Microsoft has also scheduled an event that day in New York, thought also to be a Windows Phone 7 announcement.
According to several published reports, AT&T will debut the Microsoft WP7 program and the first handsets will operate on GSM infrastructure.
